During the next week leading up to the Memorial Day holiday, American flags and patriotic decorations will begin to adorn homes and businesses throughout the county and region.
In what has become a tradition, the Flags of Honor display will have hundreds of flags representing brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country in the armed forces.
The memorial, which makes stops in several cities, continues to be a great part of what many consider Lawrence County’s largest weekend of the year.
Like the last two years, the flags will be placed at an event on Friday, May 26 and remain on display throughout the weekend until the afternoon on Monday, May 29 after the 149th annual Ironton-Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade. We applaud the efforts of those who make this possible, including the many individuals, businesses and organizations that donate time and resources to ensure those brave men and women are truly honored in the way they deserve.
While the event is about those who gave their life for our country, it also allows their families and friends to meet and fellowship with one another.
For many, the ability to pay tribute to our heroes in the nation’s capital might not be an option.
But having this right here at home provides all residents throughout the region the opportunity to visit and say thank you.
