Anyone who lives, has lived or even been in Ironton around Memorial Day knows that this special day is more than just a holiday.

From the ceremonies to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom to the longest continuously running parade, the patriotic pride around Ironton and Lawrence County is second to none.

We use this time each year to honor the men and women who answered the call throughout the years, and rightfully so.

The patriotism shown each year is truly amazing, but we must always remember that the same feeling should be an every day occurrence.

Throughout the week leading up to Memorial Day, there will be several events throughout the county, and we encourage as many as possible to try and attend. Whether it will be the first time or the tenth, these events will always hold a special place.

For Lawrence County, Memorial Day isn’t just about one day, but something we hold dear each day of our lives.

And frankly, you would be hard-pressed to find any other community that does it better.
