PEDRO — When you don’t have you’re ‘A’ game, it’s nice to get ‘A’ win.
Despite an unemotional performance, the Rock Hill Redmen were able to beat the Fairland Dragons 5-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
“We were a little flat, but we were able to press through it and get the win,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral. “We got the lead and then we made a lot of mistakes.”
Cody Lewis pitched a two-hitter, struck out 11 and walked three as he got the complete game win for the Redmen who are 11-5 overall and finish 9-5 in the conference.
Rock Hill took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Jake Blagg singled, Cody Lewis put down a sacrifice but was safe on an error, Logan Hankins had a sacrifice and Kaleb Kidd was safe on an error as the runners scored.
Fairland got its run in the top of the second when Dairus Stapleton was safe on an error, stole second, moved up on a sacrifice and scored on an error.
Rock Hill answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Seth Nichols walked, Mason Darby had a sacrifice, Blagg walked and Hankins had a two-run single.
The Redmen added an insurance run in the fourth.
Darby singled, went all the way to third on an errant pickoff play and scored on a wild pitch.
“We got some timely hits and Cody pitched a nice game,” said Litteral. “You strike out 11 and give up just two hits, you pitched well.”
Smith went 3-3 and Hankins was 2-2 as the Redmen got seven hits.
