GALLIPOLIS — Maybe it’s how you start, not how you finish.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets reversed the cliché as they scored five runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Gallipolis Blue Angels 6-2 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Coal Grove was led by Ali Waller who went 3-3 with an RBI. Lauren Meyer was 2-4.
Gallipolis was paced by Jenna Meadows who was 2-3 with a triple and an RBI.
Lauren Meyer and Gracie Riley both reached on errors to start the game and Kasey Murphy walked to load the bases.
Lauren Crum was safe on an error as a run scored. Amaya Waulk was hit by a pitch to force in a run and Mckenzie Moore hit into a fielder’s choice to score another run.
Waller and Khylee Keaton followed with RBI singles.
Gallipolis got a run in the third when Alex Barnes walked and Jenna Meadows tripled.
Coal Grove got the run back in the fourth when Destiny Napier and Meyer both bunted for a hit, moved up on a ground out and Murphy hit a sacrifice fly.
The Blue Angels got a run in the seventh when Ryleigh Caldwell singled, Allie Young reached on an error and Bailey Meadows singled.
On Wednesday, Coal Grove hosts South Point and Gallipolis is at Chesapeake.
