South Point still without new fire chief

More than 20 members and supporters of the South Point Volunteer Fire Department showed up for Tuesday night’s council meeting, expecting a decision on the new fire chief, following the retirement of Chief Richard Stevens in March.
Debbie Stevens, volunteer firefighter and secretary, spoke for the group, asking the mayor to consider Mark Goodall, assistant fire chief, for the position. Mayor Ron West said Goodall is under consideration.
David Hamm, who may expected to be appointed fire chief in April, was also at Tuesday evening’s meeting.
No action was taken to appoint a fire chief during the meeting. The mayor said, following the meeting, he doesn’t know exactly when a chief will be named.
“The next meeting will be June 7, but I don’t know if things will be in order by then,” the mayor said.
