Talk about your extreme contrasts.
The St. Joseph Female Flyers went from a tough loss to an easy win as they lost 6-4 to Huntington St. Joseph last Wednesday and then breezed past the Hannan Lady Wildcats 21-1 in three innings on Friday.
The Female Flyers took an early lead against the Lady Irish who rallied to go up 6-3 in the third inning.
After getting within 6-4, the Female Flyers had the bases loaded with one out but shortstop Paige Metzgar snagged a line drive to get a force at home and then pitcher Marie Trimboli got a strikeout to end the threat.
Morgan Turner and Kelsey Malone each went 2-for-3 to lead the Flyers.
The Female Flyers (9-5) parlayed 10 hits and 17 walks into a win over Hannan.
Turner was 3-3 with four runs scored and Malone 2-2 and four runs scored for the Female Flyers.
Megan Riley belted a home run — her third of the season — and drew three walks. Alex Holtzapfel was 1-2 with three runs, Natalie Heaberlin 1-2 and Karly Young and Griffith 1-1.
Holtzapfel got her seventh win as she struck out six, walked one and allowed five hits.
St. Joseph scored 10 runs in the first inning on hits by Turner, Holtzapfel, Malone and Griffith, eight walks and two hit batsmen.
Seven more runs scored in the second and St. Joseph got four runs in the third highlighted by Riley’s three-run homer and an RBI single by Malone.
St. Joseph played Tolsia on Monday and hosts Fairview on Tuesday.
