Redwomen pound out 16 hits en route to win

PROCTORVILLE — The Rock Hill Redwomen had a sweet 16 party.
It wasn’t anyone’s birthday but the Redwomen had 16 hits as they scored 16 runs in a 16-1 win over the Fairland Lady Dragons in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Gracie Stevens led the onslaught as she went 4-4 with a double, a triple and three runs batted in. Jill Hairston also had a big game by going 2-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI.
Anna Darby was 2-4 with two RBI, Madison Harper 2-3 and two RBI and Taylor Hall 2-3 with three RBI.
Hairston got the pitching win as she struck out six, walked two and gave up just two hits over five innings.
Rock Hill took a 5-0 lead in the first inning.
Rileigh Morris doubled and scored when Hairston reached on an error. Stevens and Darby had RBI singles, Samantha Stamper reached on a fielder’s choice and Baylie Harrah reached on an error.
Harper then singled home two runs and Hall had an RBI single.
The Redwomen erupted for seven runs in the top of the third.
Harrah and Harper singled and Hall had a two-run single. Kelsey Olderham singed, Morris reached on an error and Hairston unloaded with her three-run homer.
Stevens doubled and Darby singled to cap the rally.
The final four runs scored in the fourth inning.
Harper was safe on an error, Hall reached on a fielder’s choice, Olderham walked, Blaike Roberts reached on an error, Hairston had a two-run double and Stevens finished off the rally with a two-run single.
On Wednesday, Rock Hill visits Portsmouth at 6 p.m. and Fairland is at Coal Grove.
