Nine-year-old Teddilyn Crafts has a good time on the Euro Bungy Monday evening at the Family Fun Days event.

COAL GROVE — The bloomin’ onions and home-fried potato chips sat on paper plates at the Hollywood Grill vendor booth Monday, waiting for the hungry.

Next to it, Fliehman Concessions offered lemon shakeups to the hot and thirsty at the 34th annual Coal Grove Family Fun Days.

The annual event is part community gathering and part fundraiser for the Coal Grove Betterment Club, which organizes a myriad of events and improvements in the village. The club sponsors the annual Family Fun Days, along with the village.

Colleen and Mike Armstrong, of Ironton, sat at a picnic table and listened to The Whipps perform. The Sony recording group, some of whose members hail from Lawrence County, were among the slate of performers.

“We enjoy the music most,” Colleen Armstrong said. “We come every year.” Armstrong said she also likes that Fun Days is a community event that raises money for the community.

Community pride was very much on display Monday: The Coal Grove Lions Club and the betterment club had booths set up to entice new membership.

The event continues tonight.

“Tuesday is always our big night,” betterment club member Carol Gool said. “Everybody wants to see the fireworks.”

The ever-popular cake and pie auction is at 6 p.m., musical entertainment includes Katie Owens at 4 p.m., Bill McDaniel at 5 p.m., The Fugitives at 7 p.m. and Craig Haney at 9 p.m. The fireworks show will follow at 10 p.m.
