Man steals car, abducts children
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Two men were arrested Friday morning after allegedly abducting two small children.
Around 7:30 p.m., Brent Travis Collins, 41, of Chesapeake, allegedly stole a 2005 Dodge Caravan which held the two boys, who are nine months and three of age, according to a press release from the Huntington Police Department. He then fled the Huntington area.
An Amber Alert was issued for the two children. At approximately 4:15 a.m. Friday, the West Virginia State Police found the van along the road in West Hamlin, W.Va., along with the children. Steven Michael Huffman, 37-year-old, was arrested for obstruction and is currently housed at the Western Regional Jail.
Collins fled the area on foot, but was arrested later this morning, Officer Dale Mosley of WVSP said.
Collins faces two counts of child neglect causing a risk of substantial injuries, Detect Rod Pell of HPD, said.
The children were transported to Cabell-Huntington Hospital for precautionary examinations.
The case remains under investigation, according to the release.
ICC hears manhole project ordinance Thursday
IRONTON — At its regular meeting Thursday, the Ironton City Council:
• Heard the second reading of an ordinance authorizing and directing Mayor Rich Blankenship to execute an agreement with E.L. Robinson Engineering regarding the Ironton Manhole Rehabilitation.
The $369,500 contract would cover the engineering costs for the project.
