Turning mistakes into points gives Green lopsided victory

PORTSMOUTH - One good turnover deserves another.

The Green Bobcats defense forced one turnover after another, then converted the Portsmouth Notre Dame mistakes into points en route to an easy 91-36 Southern Ohio Conference win Friday.

Green used the turnover conversion to build a huge first half lead and coasted to their second win of the season in as many games.

"We turned them over quite a bit early and got a lot of points in transition," Green coach Kevin Sheridan said.

"We played fullcourt defense, and then after the first quarter we did a good job with our halfcourt defense. We also did a good job rebounding the ball."

Derek Lewis had 17 points and three assists to pace the Bobcats. Nathan Patten scored 14 points and Jason Bester added 11 points.

Lewis had 8 points in the first quarter and John Dawson scored 6 as Green jumped out to a 28-6 lead.

Lewis came back with 9 points in the second quarter as the lead grew to an insurmountable 43-12.

John Bowen got 5 points and Brian Ramey 4 in the third quarter as the lead grew to 66-27.

In the fourth quarter, Patten came off the bench to score 9 points and Ian Kelley got 6 as Green outscored the Titans 25-9.

The win gives Green a 1-0 SOC record.

"It's good to get a league win and a road win and we got everybody in the game," Sheridan said.

Green hosts Fairland Tuesday. Portsmouth Notre Dame visits Ironton St. Joseph.
