Construction is well underway on a new CVS pharmacy to open in Ironton this fall.
The new store, which is scheduled to open at the end of October, is being built at the corner of Jefferson and Third streets.
CVS bought the former Tipton’s building in March from RAC II, Ltd.
The construction project started in mid March with asbestos abatement of the building, which was subsequently demolished.
“It’s going pretty well,” Tom Spitler, job superintendent for GLR, Inc, said. “Our site’s a little behind but the building is pretty well on schedule. We’re looking at around Oct. 1 turnover to start moving from the other building.”
Spitler said rain earlier in the year caused the construction crew to get behind.
Workers laid the masonry for the building’s walls Tuesday and had planned to pour the concrete floor slabs Wednesday. Next week workers will set the steel for the building’s roof.
The construction crew is also building an office for Dr. James Jankowski at Fourth and Madison streets.
CVS acquired Jankowski’s former office at 618 S Fourth St.
“It’s about 60 percent (complete) now,” Spitler said.
The 13,250-square foot structure will be about 3,000-square feet larger than that of its current location at 518 S Third St., CVS spokesman Mike DeAngelis wrote in an e-mail to The Tribune.
The company rents its current location.
The new store will also offer drive-thru pharmacy window service something the current location does not have.
The company will handle the transfer of all prescriptions from one location to the other once the new store is ready to open, DeAngelis said.
