Although they struggled with their shooting early, the Green Lady Bobcats picked up the scoring in the second quarter and went on to beat the Beaver Eastern Lady Eagles 51-45 Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Green (1-0, 1-0) fell behind 9-6 at the end of the first quarter, but stormed back to outscore the Lady Eagles 19-10 in the second quarter to take the lead for good at 25-19.

“We didn’t shoot the ball well out of the block. We got good looks, we ran our offense, we just couldn’t get it to drop from the outside. We told them at the end of the quarater to keep shooting if you’ve got a good look,” said Royse.

Breanna Johnson scored nine of her 11 points in the second quarter as Green began its comeback.

The Lady Bobcats were up 38-30 at the end of the third quarter.

Ashlee Runyon got five points in the fourth quarter including a 3-pointer after Eastern got within one point. Adrianne Blankenship made four foul shots and Runyon two down the stretch to seal the win.

“We’ve got some help for (Blankenship) on the boards. That will be a plus. Johnson had a nice game, and down the stretch Runyon and Blankenship played with some poise like a veteran is supposed to,” said Royse.

Blankenship finished with 15 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.

Runyon had 13 points and 4 assists, Johnson added 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Lauren Jones pulled down 10 rebounds.

Courtney Rowe had 14 points to pace Eastern (0-1,0-1).

The Lady Bobcats host St. Joseph on Wednesday.
