HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of a body at the Rumpke, Inc. recycling and solid waste transfer station in Hamilton Township Monday.
The body of a white male was found by employees sifting through cardboard just after 10 a.m. Monday.
Sheriff Jeff Lawless said the man’s identity and the cause of death are not yet known.
Lawless said the man was found in a building where trucks drop off cardboard. It is believed the man was picked up by a Rumpke truck during one of the stops along route Saturday that stretched from Cabell County, W.Va., through Boyd County, Ky., and into Lawrence County.
The Rumpke truck made its route and then returned to the facility and dropped its cardboard load. The building was then locked for the weekend.
“He appears to be anywhere from 40 to 60 (years of age), with salt and pepper facial hair,” Lawless said. “He was clothed. There was no ID on him.”
Lawless said authorities in Lawrence County are talking with authorities in Cabell and Boyd counties to learn if they have any missing persons.
