Hornets win in OT

The Coal Grove Hornets picked up a tough road win Saturday as they beat the Sciotoville East Tartans 49-48 in overtime.

“That’s one of the toughest places to play,” said Hornets’ coach Randy Ward.

The Hornets (8-6) outscored East 4-3 in the extra period for the win.

Coal Grove led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. Shannon Goodwin scored seven points in the second quarter including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Hornets a 27-20 lead at the half

East held Coal Grove to four points in the third quarter and tied the game at 31-31.

Wayne Sparks scored 12 points in the fourth quarter while Zach Rawlins and Jon Garrett had seven each for East and it was 45-45 at the end of regulation.

Sparks finished with 19 points and Devin Monnier had 10. Dane Haukedahl grabbed 11 rebounds.

Coal Grove plays at South Point on Tuesday in an OVC game.
