The pop tune says, “I get by with a little help from my friends.” The staff at the Dennis J. Boll Group and Shelter Home said they know exactly what it means.
Thursday, an official from the group home paid a visit to Peddler’s Home Cooking restaurant to thank that eatery for its support of the group home. Each Friday night for the last year, Peddler’s has donated pizza to the youths housed at the Ironton facility. Rax Restaurant is also now donating doughnuts.
“I think it’s great,” group home food services coordinator Vickie Jenkins said.
“I think its wonderful hw they support us and our kids. Our kids have got problems, they’ve come from difficult circumstances. For someone to support us in this way, it means a lot to us and our kids.”
Peddler’s owner Darlene Rutledge said she hopes other local businesses will the see the value, even in uneasy economic times, of giving back to the community.
“If everyone would pick a day and help the kids there,” she said. “It doesn’t matter what they’ve done, they’re still kids. I know they appreciate people doing something.”
