In order to beat the Huntington St. Joseph Fighting Irish, the Fairland Dragons just needed to find Tyler Godby.

And find him they did as Godby scored 19 points to help the Dragons beat the Irish 61-43 on Saturday.

“We got a great effort from Tyler Godby. He ran the floor well and everyone was finding him in the post and he was wide open,” said Dragons’ coach John McClung.

A key in the Dragons’ win was their dominance on the boards, 49-to-24. Godby had 11 rebounds, Zach Jordan nine, Adam Berry seven and 5-foot-9 senior guard Don Ntontolo had six.

Senior guard Cole Hatfield had a solid game in his final game with 15 points and six assists. Jordan had 12 points to go with his rebound total.

Fairland led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter and Hatfield scored five points in the second quarter as the lead went to 25-21 at the half.

The Dragons then began to find Godby who had 17 of his points in the second half.

Godby had 10 points and Hatfield five in the third quarter as the lead went to 41-35.

Matt Bloomfield then turned two steals into layups, Godby had seven points and Jordan five as Fairland outscored the Irish 20-8.

“Boomer (Bloomfield) had two good steals in the fourth quarter that helped us stretch it out,” said McClung.
