Marcus Landry scored 17 points, and Joe Krabbenhoft made a key 3-pointer and steal down the stretch to help Wisconsin beat No. 24 Ohio State 55-50 on Saturday night for its fourth straight win.
Wisconsin (16-9, 7-6 Big Ten) grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and snapped Ohio State’s four-game winning streak, overcoming Evan Turner’s 23-point effort for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State (17-6, 7-5) shot 55 percent from the field, but was anything but efficient because of 19 turnovers, struggling with Wisconsin’s pressure defense and failing to keep the Badgers off the boards.
The Buckeyes kept it close because of Turner and a late shooting slump by the Badgers, who went more than five minutes without a field goal.
Highly touted freshman center B.J. Mullens, who finished with seven points and six rebounds, gave Ohio State a 46-45 lead with a free throw, but Jon Leuer snapped Wisconsin’s long drought with a jumper. After Turner gave Ohio State a 48-47 lead with 3:12 left, Wisconsin took over on the glass again.
The Badgers grabbed their 14th offensive rebound when Jason Bohannon’s 3-point attempt drew iron, but the ball was tapped out to Jordan Taylor. Krabbenhoft then hit a 3-pointer to make it 50-48 with 2:06 to go.
William Buford, who had 11 points for the Buckeyes, missed a jumper and Wisconsin got another rebound. Tim Jarmusz missed a 3, but Krabbenhoft grabbed an offensive rebound with 1:09 to play before being called for traveling.
Krabbenhoft made up for it almost immediately.
After a timeout, he helped poke the ball away from Turner for a steal and then hit two free throws with 38 seconds left to make it 52-48. Krabbenhoft finished with nine points and eight rebounds, including four on offense, and Wisconsin outrebounded Ohio State 32-22.
Jon Diebler missed a 3-pointer and Bohannon hit one of two free throws to give Wisconsin a 53-48 lead. Turner’s two free throws cut it 53-50 with 13 seconds left, but Trevon Hughes hit two free throws on the other end to seal it.
The Badgers appeared to be ready to run away with it midway through the second half, using a 10-2 run off 3-pointers by Bohannon and Jarmusz that made it 44-39 with 8:47 to play after Wisconsin started 1-of-12 from 3-point range.
But Wisconsin went into a shooting slump with just under nine minutes to go and failed to score from the field until Leuer’s basket with 3:36 left.
