Former Ironton mayor and current city councilman Bob Cleary has filed his petition to run again for mayor during the upcoming election. Cleary filed the petition Monday.
“I officially filed my petition to run for the mayor’s position today,” Cleary said. “I’m excited about the upcoming race and being able to share my ideas with the community. Ironton has a lot of growth potential without passing the cost of growth onto the citizens.”
Cleary, a business owner, has previously served as the city’s mayor for six years and as vice mayor for eight years.
Cleary’s sole opponent so far is incumbent Mayor Rich Blankenship, who filed his petition in April. Former city code enforcement officer Karl Wentz picked up a petition but as of Monday had not filed it.
The deadline is Wednesday to file petitions for the November election.
