Agent says Favre’s return speculation

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Brett Favre’s agent says talk of his client attempting another NFL comeback is just “speculation.”

Bus Cook said on Monday morning that Favre hasn’t talked to him about any sort of comeback and to his knowledge, Favre “hasn’t talked to anybody else about a comeback” either.

The 41-year-old Favre has insisted he’s done playing football, but after several years of flirting with retirement talk has spread he could return. Philadelphia’s Michael Vick said on Twitter that he would be honored to have Favre as his backup.

Favre spent most of his offseason at home in Hattiesburg, and has said he hasn’t made a decision on his future. He suffered through an injury-plagued season with the Minnesota Vikings last year, throwing for 2,509 yards, 11 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

Edward’s probation hearing set in Ohio

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Jets star wide receiver Braylon Edwards is due for an Aug. 8 court date in Cleveland to discuss whether he violated his probation there by driving drunk in New York City.

Edwards pleaded guilty Friday in New York to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. That case will be closed without jail time or probation if he meets conditions that include paying a $500 fine and staying in an NFL substance abuse counseling program.

He’s been on probation in Cleveland since January 2010. He pleaded no contest there to a misdemeanor aggravated disorderly conduct charge stemming from a fracas outside a nightclub.

Mourning cited for leaving accident

MIAMI (AP) — Former NBA star Alonzo Mourning is being cited by police for leaving the scene of a traffic crash in Miami Beach last week.

The Florida Highway Patrol issued a report Monday saying Mourning is being issued a notice to appear in court for the second-degree misdemeanor of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

Mourning was also issued a citation for failure to leave information at the scene.

Mourning and his wife were heading home early July 17 when they came upon a wreck that had just occurred. Police say Mourning was unable to avoid hitting one of the cars. Mourning then left the scene but returned about 40 minutes later.

Kauai schools to protect seabirds

HONOLULU (AP) — High school students on Hawaii’s Kauai island will be playing football in the daytime again this fall to make sure their stadium lights don’t harm threatened and endangered seabirds.

The Kauai Interscholastic Federation on Wednesday said teams would play night games until the fledging season begins and young seabirds begin leaving their nests to head out to sea on Sept. 15.

Four early evening games will be played when the moon is expected to be bright, and not when fledging activity will be at its peak.

The teams must avoid night games because the stadium lights confuse and distract seabirds following the moon and stars while migrating to the ocean.

Kauai teams follow the schedule to keep the county in compliance with federal laws protecting the endangered and threatened seabirds
