CHESAPEAKE — A portion of Big Branch Road has reopened following repairs to telephone poles after a tree fell Thursday.

Ed Webb, Chesapeake-Union Township Fire Chief, said a tree fell around 6 a.m. Thursday, causing a domino effect of telephone poles falling.

“The road is back open at this time,” Webb said.

Webb said the road was closed until about 5 p.m. when Frontier finished repairing the poles.

“They are going to go back and tighten all the lines up,” he said.

Despite the heat, Webb said the telephone company did the best they could to make the repairs quickly.

“They were out there in that heat and they did not stop,” Webb said. “They were troopers to commit themselves to get that done.”
