South Point — The Lawrence County Early Childhood Center asks Lawrence County to come together for children during the Week of the Young Child, May 4 – May 8.

As part of the national Week of the Young Child celebrated across the county, Lawrence County is honoring young children and all those who make a difference in children’s lives.

The Early Childhood Center will be celebrating throughout the week with parades, volunteer readers, a visit from Pet Land and Transportation Day.

On Thursday, May 7, from 10am – 1pm the local community is invited to attend a Family Fun Day and Resource Fair held at the Early Childhood Center, 1749 Co. Rd. 1 in South Point.

Everyone is invited to bring their family to celebrate with activities including snow cones, flower planting and jump castles, and an opportunity to stop by informational resource booths, including Open Door School, Tumble World, Tangible Alternatives, the Lawrence County Health Department, DNA testing and Autism Awareness.

Young children and their families depend on high-quality education and care, which help children get a great start, and bring lasting benefits to Lawrence County.

Week of the Young child is a time to recognize the importance of early learning and early literacy and to celebrate the teachers and policies that bring early childhood education to young children.

The Lawrence County Early Childhood Center, a program of the Lawrence County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, along with it’s partner, the Ironton-Lawrence County CAO Head Start, located in the ECC, has more than 45 early childhood professionals working together to improve professional practice in early childhood education, and to build public support for high-quality early childhood education programs.
