IRONTON — An intersection considered dangerous by the residents who border it will be outfitted with three-way stop signs, city officials said Wednesday.

The intersection of Adams and South Seventh streets, long a catalyst for traffic crashes, will have stop signs installed thanks to the diligence of more than 50 area residents.

At the request of Mayor Rich Blankenship, the signs will be installed following a neighborhood petition that had as many as 50 residents show their support for decreasing the potential for car crashes.

Blankenship said the signs could be all installed as soon as Thursday. The mayor along with Ironton Police confirmed the intersection has been the scene of “several accidents.”

“I felt it was necessary for the safety of the city to erect the stop signs at that particular intersection,” Blankenship said.

Three signs will be installed. Two on Adams and one on South Seventh as the street is a one way that runs north to south.
