Mosquitoes more than a nuisance

An ordinary bug bite can be far more than just that when the bloodsuckers are mosquitoes that can carry a variety of diseases.

With the wet weather the Tri-State is getting this spring, mosquitoes will likely be a bigger problem than ever this year.

A report from the West Virginia Department of Agriculture confirms this and says that mosquito population will certainly have the potential to be up this year.

Mosquitoes carry the West Nile Virus, a type of encephalitis and other illnesses.

A basic step people can take to keep the mosquito population down near their home is to eliminate all standing water, especially stagnant water that isn’t moving.

Old tires, flowerpots and upright buckets provide perfect breeding grounds for these insects.

Keeping your property clean is a good first step but precautions like insect repellent can go a long way as well.

Summer is almost here so we all must take the necessary steps to enjoy it safely.
