On the school website, Dave Shoupe is listed as Green’s head baseball coach.
But so far this season, he’s been pulling double duty as a marathon coach.
The Bobcats found themselves battling back in yet another extra inning game, and having to score in the late stages to defeat the Saint Joseph Flyers 8-7 in a 10 inning thriller on Monday evening in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
“I told them after the game they have done a great job of raising our blood pressure,” said Shoupe. “I’m very proud of them and their fight. They have been tested and they have answered each time.”

The win also guaranteed the Bobcats a share of the league title. They can clinch the title outright with a win over Notre Dame on Wednesday.
Jon Knapp went 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI for Green. Landon Kimbler, Quincy Merrill, and Kase McIntyre each had a base hit and an RBI. Blake Smith doubled and Gabe Blevins had an RBI.
St. Joseph had three players with multi-hit games. Landon Rowe went 4-5, Wes Neal finished 3-5 and Beckham Waginger went 3-4. Mason Weber doubled and drove in 3 runs, Carson Willis had a double and 2 RBI’s and Carson Lyons singled.
The comeback began in the seventh with the Bobcats trailing by 4 runs.
Both Brennan Rennison and Kimbler drew walks to begin the inning. Then Knapp singled with one out to score a run. Smith followed and was hit by a pitch to reach first.
Knapp would cross the plate when Merrill drew a bases loaded walk and Smith scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 7-all and force extra innings.
Both teams battled to a stalemate in the eighth and ninth innings before the Bobcats finally broke the tie in the tenth.
McIntyre singled, was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Rennison, and reached third on a passed ball.
Kimbler would hit a sacrifice fly into center, allowing McIntyre to score from third to give the Bobcats their first lead of the night.
The Flyers threatened in the bottom of the inning, as Evan Aldridge drew a walk and later reached second with two away. Willis would get a hold of a 3-2 pitch from Knapp and send it into center, but Smith tracked the ball down and caught it for the final out.
Knapp picked up the win after coming on in relief in the sixth. The junior gave up three hits, walked one and struck out six in 4 and 2/3 innings of work. Willis took the loss for the Flyers after coming in during the seventh and allowing a hit, a run, and struck out four.
The Saint Joseph (5-5) offense continued to stay hot from last week, as Rowe started the game off with a triple and scored on a grounder to open up the scoring. Later in the inning, Willis doubled deep into left to score Lyons and Neal and give the Flyers a 3-0 lead.
Green was able to tie the game in the second when Blevins scored on a fielder’s choice.
But the Flyers answered with 4 more runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-3 lead all the way to the seventh and set up the finish.
Shoupe also praised the Saint Joseph nine and their team’s turnaround since the last meeting.
“We made some mistakes tonight, but St. Joe really fought this evening. They came to play and improved a lot since the last time we saw them,” said Shoupe.
