FRANKLIN FURNACE — Despite a good four and two-thirds innings from pitcher Landon Kimbler, and RBI’s from Noah McMackin and Gabe Blevins, the Southern Tornadoes were able to rally late and escape with a 5-2 win over the Green Bobcats on Saturday.

Kimbler got the start for the Bobcats and wound up getting a no decision. Kimbler wound up allowing just 4 hits, 2 earned runs, a walk and fanned 5 batters. Blevins came in relief during the fifth and ended up taking the loss.

McMackin went 2-3 at the plate and drove in a run. Blevins had the other RBI for the Bobcats on a double in the fifth inning. Kimbler and Mason Neal also tallied singles.

Green (8-2) was the first to crack into the scoring column in the bottom of the second.

Neal led off with a base hit into right and stole his way to second and reached third on an error. McMackin singled to drive in Neal to make it 1-0.

Southern would take the lead in the fourth, getting a single from Carson Reuter. Then Gryphon Thomas singled and reached second on an error during the play, allowing Reuter to score from first. Will Smith followed up with a single to give the Tornadoes the lead.

The Bobcats would pull to within even in the bottom of the fifth.

Kimbler singled with two outs and made his way to second on a wild pitch. Blevins would smack a double into right to send Kimbler home.

Hunter Jarrell would single in the go-ahead run in the sixth on a 1-2 pitch.

The Tornadoes (6-2) added two insurance runs in the seventh to round out the final score.

Jarrell picked up the win for Southern. The junior gave up three hits, an earned run and struck out four in the five innings of work. Jarrell also went 1-3 at the plate and an RBI.

Reuter finished 3-4 and drove in a run for Southern. Gryphon Thomas went 3-4. Smith and Anthony Whobrey each recorded a hit in the win.

The Bobcats will be back at home on Monday against Portsmouth Clay.
