CG girls use good pitching, hitting for easy win

PROCTORVILLE — When you get really good pitching with really good hitting, you get a really good win.
That’s what the Coal Grove Lady Hornets got on Friday as Abbie Deeds pitched a 2-hitter and the offense had 14 hits to beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 12-0 in run rule Ohio Valley Conference game.
Deeds struck out all 15 outs in the game and walked 3 batters to get the win.
Mia Haynes was 3-4 with a double and 2 runs batted in to lead the offense. Deeds was 2-4 with an RBI, Izzy Kitts 2-4 with 2 RBI, Rylee Black 2-3 with a double and RBI, Braelie Hitchcock 2-3 with an RBI, Kendall Taylor 2-4 and Kasey Vanderhoof 1-3 with an RBI.
Katie Dehart was 2-3 for Fairland (0-10, 0-5).
Coal Grove (6-3, 3-1) took a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.
Deeds singled and scored when Kitts singled and went to third on an error. Black walked and Rylee Bare was safe on an error for a run.
The final 2 runs scored when Haynes and Vanderhoof grounded out.
The lead went to 6-0 in the third.
Haynes and Hitchcock singled and an error scored Haynes. Taylor grounded out as Hitchcock scored.
Coal Grove put the game away with 6 runs in the fourth.
Black and Haynes doubled for a run, Vanderhoof singled for an RBI and she scored on an error.
Hitchcock and Taylor singled and an error produced a run. Deeds singled for a run and Black doubled home a run.
