Richard “Dick” Stephen Clay, 78, of Ironton, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Ironton, on Sept. 28, 1946, a son to the late George David Clay and Irene Hodnett Clay.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nikki Hartwig-Clay, whom he married May 5, 1990.
Dick was a 1964 graduate of St. Joe High School in Ironton, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton and a member of Knights of Columbus in Ironton.
He had been employed as a purchasing agent for both, Meehan Steel in Ironton and Martin Steel in Huntington, West Virginia.
He loved to travel and spending time with his family.
Dick enjoyed coaching little league baseball and was an avid baseball fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Clay; his first wife, Susan Imler Clay; and his brother, Pete Clay.
Those left to celebrate his memory in addition to his wife, are his children, Steve (Kathy) Clay, of Wheelersburg, Cathy Monnig (Bob), of Ironton; his brothers, Jim (Regina) Clay, of Ironton, and George (Nan) Clay, II, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his sisters, Irene (Mike) Hanifin, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Teresa DiCenzo, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Amy (Nick) Richendollar, of Ironton; grandchildren, Lainee (Dusty) Spradlin, Jonathan (Austen) Monnig and Nick Clay; great-grandchildren, Clay Spradlin, Cameron Spradlin, Carson Spradlin and Callan Monnig.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fifth and Chestnut streets, Ironton, with Father Wayne Morris officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
