Marlene Sue “Nan” Carey, 86, of Coal Grove, passed away Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, in Community Hospice Care Center.
Marlene was born April 25, 1938, in Ironton to the late Ralph and Bess Nourse.
In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Joseph Carey in 2019; two grandchildren, D.J. Carey III and Randall Keith Fields II; two nephews, Mitchell Phillip Carey and John Robert Carey; her brothers, Jerry “Scoop” Nourse, Ralph “Bud” Nourse; and her sisters, Norma Lou Bruce and Geraldine Blakeman.
Marlene was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton and retired from Ironton City Income Tax Department.
She also formerly worked with the Ironton City Police and was former treasurer of the Village of Coal Grove.
Marlene loved driving fast, going to Myrtle Beach, eating Red Lobster and watching Ohio State Buckeyes Football.
Her family was the joy of her life.
Those left to cherish her memory are, her children, Randall Keith Fields (Kim), of Boyd County, D.J. Carey II, of Russell, Kentucky, Crystal Elaine Heckel (Bill), of New London; her sister, Carol Nourse, of Columbus; three grandchildren, Betsy Callihan (Terry), of Raceland, Kentucky, Frank Heckel (Jozie), of Wilmington, and Brittany Fields, six great-grandchildren, Rylie Sue-anne Cook of Russell Kentucky, Cullen Callihan, of Flatwoods Kentucky, Jayden Callihan, of Raceland Kentucky, Noah Carey, of Ashland Kentucky, Layla Carey, of Ashland, Kentucky, William Heckle, of Wilmington, and Robert Aycock, and Daphne Heckel.
Funeral service for Marlene will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton. Burial will follow service in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.
