EDITORIAL: Toward a great cause

Recently, Diane Porter, director of Harvest for the Hungry, made an appeal to the public.

She said the food pantry, which serves thousands in need in Lawrence County each year, is in need of more support.

As Porter pointed out, the amount of need in the area has risen in recent year, and the pantry’s donations have not been able to match that need.

In addition to purchasing food for distribution, Harvest for the Hungry has faced a number of challenges, such as maintaining vehicles and equipment and performing maintenance on their building in Ironton.

The pantry does much good for our county, whether through their food giveaways throughout the year, or their major distribution event each Thanksgiving.

And, as a nonprofit, all donations go toward their work.

They exist 100 percent through donations and grants, and their track record shows such funds have been well spent.

We would like to encourage anyone who can, individuals’ or businesses, to consider contributing to their efforts, which have done a great deal of good over the years for our area.

Your generosity could go a long way toward a noble mission.
