Gloria Inez Steed, 89, of Ironton, passed away, Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky.

Gloria was born on March 3, 1935 in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Robert and Florence (Heading) Whitely. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Steed, who passed away on Aug. 31, 2006.

Gloria was a graduate of Ironton High School and worked for over 44 years at the Ironton J.C. Penney’s as a jewelry representative.

She enjoyed keeping her home neat and tidy, from growing flowers to decorating for holidays, her home was always kept very elegant inside and out.

Gloria enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds, OSU Football and The Ironton Tigers and even attended their State Championship Parade a few weeks ago.

Gloria adored her Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of Russell Christian Baptist Church, Russell, Kentucky.

In addition to her parents and Husband, Jim, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Whitely and Dennis Whitely and a sister, Mildred Whitely.

Those left to cherish her memory are a sister, Carol (Ray) Crisp, of Morehead, Kentucky; a brother, Glenn (Halley) Whitely, of Columbus; nieces, Cheryl Ward, Heather Moore, Holli Shahan, Piper Moore, Sybil Trinarco, Kathy Smith and Amanda Castle; nephews, Steve Cornell, Niko Cornell, Colin Cornell, Jason Cornell, Christopher Shahan and Robert Whitely; and also special caregivers, Larry and Tina Webb.

Funeral service will be 12:45 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Pastor Vernon Lore officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
