Lady Hornets finish up as they rout Lady Rebels

COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets played an elevator game. Fortunately, they ended up in the penthouse.

Playing inconsistently early, the Lady Hornets took control in the second half and rolled past the Tolsia Lady Rebels 55-35 on Saturday.

“We played up and down,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Nick Miller. “We had a good first quarter, then struggled to score in the second.

“Tolsia’s coach switched defenses and it slowed us down.”

Coal Grove (4-5) took a 16-7 first quarter lead as Jenna Anson scored 6 points, Emma Lively drained a pair of 3-pointers and Kendall Taylor had 4 points.

Artrip scored 5 points including a 3-pointer and Jacey Crum added a basket for Tolsia’s total.

Each team scored 8 points in the second quarter and it was 24-15 at the half.

Anson had 4 points and Isabella Kitts 3 for the Lady Hornets. Artrip scored half of Tolsia’s points in the quarter.

The Lady Hornets outscored Tolsia 18-14 in the third quarter and the lead was 42-29.

Anson had 8 points including 4-of-6 at the foul line while Taylor scored 5 points and Harmonee Boggs hit a 3-pointer.

Artrip hit a 3-pointer and scored 8 points for the Lady Rebels.

“We came out in the second half and did a better job against their defense,” said Miller.

“Kendall had a nice floor game and scored in double figures for the first time this season. Jenna is scoring well for us and her free throws are improving every game.”

Coal Grove continued to pull away in the fourth quarter  as 4 different players scored.

Artrip had 4 points and Olivia Kelly a basket for Tolsia.

Anson matched her career high with 23 points to pace the Lady Hornets. Taylor finished with 11.

Artrip led Tolsia with 21 points (1-3).
