CEDARVILLE — Nate Davenport showed his power on the field. He had pretty good power at the voting box, too.

The former Rock Hill Redmen first baseman turned in an outstanding season for Cedarville College and was rewarded by the American Mideast Conference baseball coaches who named him the league’s Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-4 junior hit .368 and belted eight home runs, 23 doubles and drove in 52 runs as he earned first team honors and led Cedarville to a 31-16 record.

Fifth in the league in hitting, Davenport led the conference in home runs, doubles, RBIs, total bases (115) and slugging percentage (.661).

To put an exclamation point on his numbers, Davenport set school records for doubles and runs batted in.

Last year Davenport set a school record with 12 home runs, snapping the old mark by one that stood for 26 years. He also set a school single-season record for most at bats (200) and total bases (110), a record he broke this year.
