Lady Hornets team effort beat Lady Panthers

CHESAPEAKE — Going back got the Coal Grove Lady Hornets going forward.
Coal Grove reverted to an early season performance that keyed a 45-36 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Tuesday.
“That’s a big win for us,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Nick Miller. “We played well for an entire game, which we have not done since we played Symmes Valley back in November.
“It was a team effort. We handled their full-court pressure pretty well. That’s a definite improvement from our last game. Hopefully, we can continue this momentum going forward.”
Sara Dillon scored 4 points and Kate Ball hit a 3-pointer as the Lady Panthers took a 7-5 lead,
Isabelle Kitts hit a 3-pointer and scored 4 points for Coal Grove.
The Lady Hornets rallied to take a 16-12 halftime lead as Jenna Anson scored 4 points and Kitts hit a 3-pointer.
Ball hit a 3-pointer and Dillon made a basket for Chesapeake’s points.
Emma Lively got the hot hand and scored 10 points in the third quarter including a pair of 3-pointers as the Lady Hornets took a 31-24.
Ball had 5 points as she and Ciera Nichols each hit 3-pointers.
In the fourth quarter, Anson and Kendall Taylor scored 6 points each as Coal Grove stretched the lead.
Ball had another triple and scored 5 points and Abbey Isaacs scored all 4 of her points with Erin. Hicks added a 3-pointer for the Lady Panthers.
Anson led Coal Grove (2-5, 1-4) with 15 points and Lively had 10.
Ball scored a game-high 16 points to pace Chesapeake (4-2, 2-2).
