EDITORIAL: Success in season of giving

Thanks to the efforts of Harvest for the Hungry, the Thanksgiving holiday will be a bright one for 500 families in our region.
The food pantry and its volunteers, led by director Diane Porter, gave out items on Saturday to those in need, providing enough food for households to create a Thanksgiving meal.
This yearly event always assists hundreds and it is through the hard work of those and the food pantry, as well as the generosity of its donors, that it is a success every time.
As an area with high poverty, the Tri-State is one of high need, not just during the holidays, but all year.
The food pantry works every month, assisting through its regular giveaways.
Another organization that has a similar goal is Chesapeake Community Mission Outreach, which works year round to help those in need.
Next month, they will do for Christmas what Harvest for the Hungry does at Thanksgiving, providing food, toys and other items to those in need.
And such efforts exist through the help of donors. We encourage everyone who can to contribute, through volunteering or donations to this effort, as well as other charitable missions in the area.
You could make the holiday season brighter for many.
At the The Tribune, we seek to spread the word in this season of giving.
If you know of a group, school, church or community project is ongoing, let us know. We would be glad to help get the word out to make all of these efforts a success.
