Franklin Furnace man charged with murder

FRANKLIN FURNACE — A Franklin Furnace man has been arrested and accused of murder after a man was found dead behind the wheel of SUV, which was riddled with bullets.

On Thursday night around 7:46 p.m., the Scioto County 911 center got a call about a shooting at 19 Disterdick Lane, Ironton.

When deputies and detectives arrived on the scene they found Ronnie L. Rowe, 24, of South Shore, Kentucky, dead behind the wheel of a Chevy Equinox that had multiple bullet holes in it.

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman said that during the investigation, detectives learned another man had been inside the Chevy during the shooting.

The man fled on foot and detectives were able to locate him within minutes walking on U.S. 52 in the Franklin Furnace area.

Jacob Tyler Carver, 25, of Franklin Furnace, was identified as the shooter and was detained. He was brought to the sheriff’s office for further investigation.

Carver has been charged with one count of first degree felony murder. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond and will appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday.

Thoroughman stated that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations was contacted to assist with processing the crime scene.

Rowe has been sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

Thoroughman stated that this is still an ongoing investigation that will result in more charges being presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury on a later date.
