Ironton man killed in motorcycle accident

SCIOTO COUNTY — An Ironton man was killed Tuesday evening in a motorcycle crash in Scioto County.
According to a report, on Tuesday at 06:26 p.m., the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call of a fatal motorcycle vs truck crash on State Route 522 near mile post 6.
Clinton Barnard, 33, of Ironton, was driving a 2000 Honda Goldwing northwest bound on State Route 522.
After passing another vehicle, he lost control, Barnard was left of center when the motorcycle laid down and struck an oncoming southeast bound truck. Barnard succumbed to his injuries as a result of the crash at the scene.
Zachary Messer, 39, of McDermott, was driving a 2009 Freightliner Truck southeast bound on State Route 522 and was struck by Barnard in the southeast bound lane.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Green Township Fire Department and the Scioto County Coroner’s Office.
