Joseph Smith

Joseph Paul “Sam” Smith, 89, of Coal Grove, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at Harbor Health Nursing Home in Ironton.

He was born May 15, 1935 in Ashland, Kentucky, to the late Joel and Ollie Walls Smith.

He was the husband of Martha Holly Smith.

He was retired from CSX Railroad and a member of the Elm Street Nazarene Church.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Debbie Hall; granddaughter, Shamra Zornes Carlson (James); and grandson, Zaden Carlson.

He was preceded in death by children, Penny and Jim Zornes; sisters, Betty Kelly and Barb Hackworth Layher; brother, John Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with Harris Lawrence officiating with a one hour viewing before the funeral.

Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
