BELPRE — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once coined the phrase in Paul Revere’s Ride, “One if by land, two if by sea.”

Well, the Rock Hill Redmen modified that saying to “Score one by offense, one by defense, and one by special teams.”

The Redmen scored in all three phases of the game as they rolled past the Belpre Golden Eagles to a 55-0 win on Friday night at Ralph Holder Stadium.

Rock Hill piled up 405 yards of offense, with 278 of that on the ground.

The defense pitched a shutout and intercepted 2 passes and came up with 3 fumble recoveries. Even the special teams unit got into the act, by blocking a punt for points.

The win moves Rock Hill to a 5-1 overall record on the season, and will shift back to Ohio Valley Conference play next week when they travel to Gallia Academy on Friday.

Belpre falls to 1-5.

The Redmen wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as senior Anthony Stamper took a handoff on the game’s third play from scrimmage, and sweeped around the left side and outran the entire defense the the first score.

Rylan Barker added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Aided by a penalty, the Golden Eagles (1-5) were able to move in Rock Hill territory on their first possession. But the drive was halted when Stamper stepped in front of a rollout pass by Luke Davis, giving the Redmen the ball at their own 15.

The Redmen defense suffocated the Golden Eagles’ offense all game, allowing just 85 yards of offense for the game. The Redmen also converted 4 of Belpre’s turnovers into 28 points in the win.

Rock Hill turned the turnover into points with a 7-play drive that included Stamper ripping off a 56-yard run to the Belpre 11.

Then three plays later, Stamper walked his way in behind lockers for his second score of the night.

Barker’s point after was good and Rock Hill led 14-0.

Following a 3-and-out by the defense, Cox hit Sam Rusk on a post for a 45-yard touchdown strike to extend the lead to 21-0 in the late stages of the first quarter.

The Rock Hill defense made a stop on fourth down, setting the offense up at midfield as they began another scoring drive.

Brody Simpkins and Stamper both ripped off 11-yard runs each. Then three plays later Logan Hopper slashed his way in from 15 yards out for the score. Barker followed with the extra point to make it 28-0.

Later in the quarter, the Golden Eagles were to come up with an interception in the end zone off a fortuitous bounce.

But the offense was unable to take advantage of the turnover and forced to punt.

But the Rock Hill special teams took advantage of the punter standing in his own end zone, and blocked the kick. The ball skidded around in the back of the endzone and was recovered for 6 points and gave the Redmen a 34-0 lead at the half.

The Redmen continued to score in a fast moving second half despite the 30-point running clock rule in effect.

Aaron Workman stepped in front of a pass and intercepted it at the Belpre 39.

The sophomore linebacker found nothing but green grass as he cut across the field and into the end zone for the defensive score.

Barker added the point after to make it 41-0.

Following a fumble recovery on the ensuing kickoff, Bridger Kerns took a handoff to his left, fought off a tackle, then reversed field and made his way across the goal line for a 16-yard score and extended the Redmen lead to 48-0 late in the third quarter.

In the later stages of the fourth quarter, the Redmen got a huge run from Cash Lyons for 38 yards to put the ball at the Belpre 2.

On the next play, Yaden Bailey surged into the end zone for the final score of the night. Cox came on and added the extra point to close out the score at 55-0.

Stamper finished the night with 7 carries for 149 yards and caught a pass for 53 yards to lead the offensive ground attack.

Quarterback Dallin Cox completed 5 of 9 passes for 127 yards to lead the aerial game.
