SOUTH POINT – Turnovers and a struggling offense were too much for South Point to overcome, as the Spring Valley Timberwolves defeated the Pointers 55-20 on Friday night at Alumni Stadium.

South Point’s offense struggled to get any rhythm in the first half, turning the ball over four times. 

Meanwhile, Spring Valley had 7 different players find the end zone, piled up 412 yards of offense and converted 3 Pointer turnovers into points en route to the win.

The Timberwolves scored on their first 5 possessions of the game, building up a 35-0 lead with 10:34 remaining in the second quarter.

With the offense having trouble finding its footing, the South Point defense created a turnover in the second quarter to set up the first score of the game and the special teams unit would later set up the second touchdown.

As Spring Valley’s Miguel Cain made a gain on a second down play, Davon Lewis stood up the running back, allowing Robert Napier to pop the ball into the air, and teammate Steeler Waulk caught the loose pigskin at the 38 and returned it to the Timberwolves 5.

Two plays later, Ethan Hunt found Kamren Miller for a 3-yard touchdown toss. Israel Schneider added the extra point to cut the deficit to 35-7 with 9:34 remaining until halftime.

Miler led all Pointer receivers with 4 receptions for 56 yards. 

The special teams set up the other score for the Pointers in the final seconds of the half. As Spring Valley went to punt, defensive tackle Tavarion Carrabus was able to rush and get a hand up to block the kick, and send the ball rolling into the end zone. Brayden Hanshaw jumped on the ball for the score as time expired.

Hanshaw would later find Lewis for an 8-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for the Pointers final score of the night.

The Timberwolves offense was led by quarterback Liam Mcguire who went 4-of-7 passing for 95 yards and 3 touchdown passes. Mcguire also carried the ball 3 times for 42 yards. Bryce Fuller, Jaylen Abercrombie, and Cole Ferguson each tallied a touchdown reception.

Running back Logan Harris led all rushers with 71 yards on 5 carries and a score. Cain had 6 rushes for 68 yards and a touchdown for Spring Valley.

South Point will travel across the river to face the Russell Red Devils next Friday.
