Pointers’ Taylor finished 5th in state discus

DAYTON — The state meet is the best of the best and there are just a lot of good performances.
South Point Pointers Derrick Taylor turned in an outstanding effort but didn’t get the win at the Division 2 state track meet on Friday at the University of Dayton’s Welcome Stadium.
Taylor had an impressive throw of 162-feet and finished seventh in a strong field won by Dillon Marlock of Norwayne with a toss of 191-6.
Chesapeake Panthers Cameron Burgess was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles to reach the finals as he was clocked at 14.66 seconds.
Ironton’s 4×200 relay team of Tatum Moore, Kayden Edwards, Maddix Markel and Jack Whaley ran at time of 1:31.45 but failed to make the finals.
South Point’s 4×100 relay team of Landon Vance, Joey Bloebaum, Elijah Wilburn and Kamren Miller posted a time of 43.86 seconds only to fail to make the finals.
Bloebaum ran in the 400 meters as well and posted a 50.69 time but did not reach the finals on Saturday.
South Point Lady Pointers’ Emma Layne was eighth in the 100 meters with a 12.55 seconds and qualified for the finals.
The Lady Pointers’ Samiya Bradburn ran a 1:00.-7 in the 400 meters but did not qualify for the finals.
The quartet of Bindi Staley, Camille Hall, Leila Hall and Emma Layne ran a slick time of 50.20 seconds but did not qualify for the finals.
