AID — There was a whole lotta hittin’ going on.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings banged out 16 hits en route to a 14-5 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Western LadyIndians on Wednesday.

“We hit the ball well and we got to play some of the younger girls and let them get the chance to bat against varsity pitching,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Symmes Valley (12-6, 5-1) went in front 2-0 in the first inning.

Brenna Tibbs singled, stole second and Desiree Simpson had an RBI single. Marley Ferguson followed with an RBI double.

The lead went to 5-0 in the second.

With 2 outs, Addy Hawk walked, Emma Ridenour singled, and then Tibbs, Simpson and Ferguson all had RBI singles.

The lead went to 11-0 in the third.

Kaycee Thompson doubled, Jaycee Cook was hit by a pitch, Hawk walked to load the bases and Ridenour hit a sacrifice fly. Tibbs tripled to clear the bases and Simpson belted a home run. Ferguson then doubled and Savannah Mart singled her home to cap the rally.

Western got all 5 of its runs in the fourth.

Megan Whitley doubled, Bailey Ison hit by a pitch and Lauren Ware had an RBI double. Aubrey Penwell walked to load the bases and Finley May hit into a fielder’s choice for a run. Chelsey Ryan singled for a run and a throwing error scored a run. Faith Stone walked and Whitley singled in the final run.

In the fifth, Ferguson doubled, Mart was hit by a pitch, Autumn Justice doubled both runners home and it was 13-5.

The final run scored in the sixth when Ridenour singled, took second on a passed ball, moved up on a fielder’s choice and came home when Natalie Simpson grounded out.

Tibbs was 3-4 with a triple and 4 RBI, Ridenour 3-5 with an RBI, Desiree Simpson 2-3 with a home run and 5 RBI, Ferguson 2-3 with 2 doubles, Mart 2-3, Justice 2-2 with 2 doubles, Haydon 1-1 with a double and Thompson 1-4 with a double.

Mart went 3 innings for the win as she gave up 2 hits, no runs, struck out 2 and walked one.

The Lady Vikings play at Eastern on Monday.
