Shows set for three days
Students in the theater department at Ironton High School were hard at work on Tuesday, going through a dress rehearsal of their production of ‘Annie Jr.” which will run next weekend.
Director Auretta Hensley was watching the run through of the show, taking notes, which she shared with the cast and crew, giving them a list to work on for the final show.
“Get a bow tie,” she told one cast member, on improvements to his costume, while telling Shayna Schultz, portraying the titular character, to add freckles to her look.
She also noted that cast should be sure to pause and hold for lines that earn a laugh, so the audience reaction doesn’t step on the following dialogue.
Hensley said students have been working on the show since January, their big production for the year and that they had three performances planned.
With a cast and crew of 40 students, the production is based on the 1977 Broadway musical (which was adapted into a 1980 film) of cartoonist Harold Grey’s Great Depression-era orphan.
Shows are planned for Friday-Saturday, March 22-24. All performances will be at 7 p.m. Doors open for ticket sales at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and $5 for Ironton students. Admission is free for those 2 and under.
