Lawrence County’s streets will soon be overflowing with the creepy, the kooky, maybe some ookey and everything in between as trick-or-treaters come out in force Thursday.

All of Lawrence County will host trick-or-treat from 6 to 8 p.m. except Coal Grove who set the times from 6 to 7 p.m.and Chesapeake from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

With hundreds or even thousands of children and parents walking the streets of our communities it is vitally important that every citizen pauses for a minute to make safety a priority in every way.

Motorists need to be extra cautious when traveling Thursday evening, on close look out for a little goblin or princess that may think their kingdom extends into the roadways. Knowing that there will likely be lots of vehicle and pedestrian traffic out, we hope everyone leaves a little early for their events so they won’t have to rush.

Here are a few other safe trick-or-treat tips The Tribune shared before but will reprint here:

Carry a flashlight with fresh batteries after dark.

Take a cell phone or carry money along to make a phone call in case of problems or emergency.

Wear identification that is easy to read.

Always trick or treat in groups, accompanied by an adult.

Follow a curfew and take a watch with a backlight.

Stay on the sidewalks and out of street if at all possible. Cross only at intersections and designated crosswalks.

Trick or treat in familiar neighborhoods

Only visit well lit houses. Don’t stop at dark houses.

Do not enter any house unless you know the people and are accompanied by an adult.

Always watch for cars and do not jaywalk.
