EDITORIAL : Pet owners, take note this month

It is that time of year when we remind the public to please renew your dog tags for your pets.
Not only is the responsible thing to do, they are legally required in the state of Ohio.
Sales of tags began on Dec. 1 and will run through Jan. 31.
Tags can be picked up at the Lawrence County Animal Shelter and the Lawrence County Auditor’s Office, located in the county courthouse, Dickess Market in Kitts Hill or at South Point Storage, located just off the Solida Road interchange of U.S. 52, near the village roundabout (Look for the giant concrete elephant outside).
They are also available online at https://www.doglicenses.us/OH/Lawrence.
According to Dewey Besco, of the shelter, those purchasing tags have three options:
• Standard tags are $16.
• If a person brings in documentation that their pet is spayed or neutered, then the price is $12.
• If the pet is a hunting dog and the owner brings in a hunting license, the cost is $12,
We encourage those buying tags to do so this month. Not only does it expedite the process, but the fees double after the sale ends in January.
