Phyllis Louann (Loukx) Kennedy, 92, of Ironton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at SOMC Hospice of Portsmouth.

She was born in Ironton was born April 12, 1931, a daughter to the late Arnold Loukx and Norma D. (Jenkins) Loukx.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Allen Loukx, James Russell Loukx, Hollis Loukx, her twin, and George R. Loukx.

She is survived her husband of 64 years, attorney William D. Kennedy; her two children, Richard Kennedy and Sharon (Larry) Kennedy-Norris; and by her grandson, Larry Norris III.

She attended Ironton City Schools graduating with the class of 1949.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Ironton since 1940.

She was a former Sunday School teacher, and was proud of her time as the Girl Scott leader.

She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and served on the board of Christian Education and the Board of Deaconesses.

Phyllis was very active in the community where she served as a trustee of Shawnee State University, the Briggs-Lawrence County Library Board of Trustees and was a local director for the American Lung Association.

Phyllis began her working career at the Ironton Firebrick Company and later was the office manager for the Kennedy and Kennedy Law Office for over 44 years.

While Phyllis was very active and involved in her community her greatest love was caring for her family as a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with Pastor Eric Barnes officiating.

Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.

The Kennedy family will receive friends, Monday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
