WAYNE, W.Va. — After being on the short end of the score early, the Wayne Pioneers went long distance to take the lead.

Wayne made 12 shots from behind the arc as they beat the St. Joseph Flyers 62-44 on Tuesday.

Isaac Meddings hit eight 3-pointers and scored 30 points to do most of the long distance work.

St. Joseph took a 16-15 first quarter lead as Carter Johnson scored 8 points and Drew Brown had 7 points including a 3-pointer.

But Meddings got the hot hand and made five 3-point goals as Wayne outscored the Flyers 18-6 in the second quarter to take a 33-22 halftime lead.

Johnson scored 5 points for St. Joseph in the quarter.

Each team scored 10 points in the third quarter as the Pioneers maintained their lead at 43-32.

Landon Rowe scored all 4 of his points including 2-of-2 at the foul line for the Flyers (0-2).

Wayne dialed up long distance again in the fourth quarter as Zane Adkins hit a pair of triples while Peyton Marcum and Meddings added one each and Wayne outscored the Flyers 19-12.

Evan Balestra went 3-of-3 at the foul line as he scored 5 points for the Flyers.

Johnson scored 14 points to pace the Flyers while palestra and Brown got 9 points each.

Besides Meddings, Cooper Adkins had 13 points for Wayne (1-0).
