Often times Lawrence County is mostly viewed as the community that sits along the Ohio River, but that perception overlooks the tens of thousands of residents who call the more rural parts of Lawrence County home.

These individuals are sometimes forgotten when it comes to getting needed services because many of the organizations and groups operate from the river communities.

But the Greasy Ridge Church of Christ is doing its part to change that, at least when it comes to feeding the hungry and helping those in need.

The church recently revived its food pantry by working with the Huntington Area Food Bank. Nearly 200 individuals, more than five times what was expected, were given a helping hand in this important endeavor.

The mission of the pantry is to provide families with enough food to get them through the last week of the month. That’s why it will be open on the Friday between the fifth and eighth days from the end of the month.

Although there are other food pantries in the county, none have the rural reach that comes from the Greasy Ridge location, bringing this service to Lawrence Countians who likely wouldn’t have it otherwise.

For their efforts, the Greasy Ridge Church of Christ is recognized as this week’s “Good News, Good Neighbors” showcase.

Along with the Gospel, this church is spreading goodwill right here at home.
