CHESAPEAKE — The search for a missing child ended quickly on Wednesday morning when officials found the child playing at a nearby residence.
Lawrence County Sheriff, Jeff Lawless, said the department received a call from a father who said his daughter went missing from their yard. After searching the neighborhood himself, the father called the sheriff’s department for help.
Lawless said a search party was formed, which included deputies from the sheriff’s office, Union Township Fire Department and the Lawrence County EMS.
During the door-to-door search, the child was found playing with other children in a nearby residence where she has been before. The homeowner said he did not know the child was missing.
Lawless said he was glad the situation ended well and quickly.
“We take this kind of thing very seriously.”
