PROCTORVILLE — It’s a chance for new students or those getting close to graduation to find out about the job market.

That’s the purpose behind the upcoming Career Expo at Marshall University March 2. This time the expo is a partnership between Marshall and Ohio University Southern.

“You can go as a job seeker or a job researcher and get ideas from employers,” Sarah Kyllo, student services specialist at the OUS Proctorville Center. “This is a job fair where there is going to be local organizations set up at tables.”

Right now there are 50 students signed up for the expo. Students attending are advised to dress professionally and bring copies of their resume.

Both OUS campuses will have shuttles to take students to the Memorial Student Center on Marshall’s campus.

“If they have no idea of exactly what they want to go into, they can go around and see what jobs are open and do some networking,” Kyllo said.

And those getting close to having to turn their college studies into a career can find out which employers are hiring and what they are looking for.

“I think it is a really good way to go with an open mind and talk with as many people as you can,” Kyllo said. “The more you can interact with professionally and practice your interviewing skills. I think it is a good idea to do a little bit of research and talk to people who have gone on interviews and what kind of questions they’ve been asked.”

And Kyllo advises promoting the details in a resume.

“Your specific experiences, not just what classes you took, but specifics, if you have worked on specific projects,” she said.

The Career Expo runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students can pre-register on the Ohio University Southern Website. For more information or to sign up for a van shuttle, contact Kyllo at &4-547-3830 or Bill King at OUS-Ironton at (740) 547-3875.
