McDERMOTT — As Crystal Gayle once sang, “Don’t Take Me Half The Way.”

The Green Lady Bobcats played well the first half, but Megan Sword took over in the second half to lead the Leesburg Fairfield Lady Indians to a 64-33 win Monday in the Division IV sectional tournament.

“We played well the first half, but Sword just took over in the second half and we had too many turnovers,” said Green coach Bucky Bridges.

Sword scored 20 of her 35 points in the second half as Fairfield outscored Green 36-11 the final two quarters.

Lindsey Bernard added 12 points for Fairfield (2-18).

Jenna Crawford turned in a solid game for Green with 15 points including four 3-pointers. She also had five rebounds.

Gidget Timberman added 10 points and three assists. Dinah McCloud grabbed 10 rebounds and Breanna Johnson had five rebounds.

“Crawford stepped up. She’s just a sophomore but she shot the ball with confidence,” said Bridges.

Crawford had five points in the first quarter and the game was tied 9-9. Fairfield then went up 28-22 at the half.

Green managed just eight points in the third quarter and fell behind 48-30. The Lady Bobcats had only three points in the fourth quarter.

Green finished the season 1-20.

“We have a lot of young players and we’ve got some people coming back who like to work hard,” said Bridges.

Fairfield will play top-seeded Portsmouth Clay at 1 p.m. Saturday in the sectional finals.
